Safety by design

Your safety is a feature, not a disclaimer

Kalyra is a fitness and wellness product — not a medical device and not a diagnostic tool. Within that boundary, we engineer safety into the plan itself.

Screening: everyone, every time

Before your plan is generated, you answer a short activity-readiness questionnaire adapted from established exercise-screening principles. Certain answers — a known heart condition, chest pain, diagnosed conditions or medications — mean we won't generate full training until you've checked in with a qualified professional. In the meantime, you get a gentle mobility & breathing track, because movement still matters and staying inactive isn't the answer either.

Pregnancy guardrails

  • First trimester: crunch-pattern trunk flexion and jumping are held back; otherwise training continues at a sensible pace.
  • Second & third trimester: no back-lying positions (they can restrict blood return), no front-lying, no jumping or high impact, no loaded rotation, no head-below-heart positions. Intensity is capped at a conversational effort, rests are longer, and sessions stay ≤ 30 minutes.
  • Always: you're encouraged to keep your prenatal provider in the loop, and to stop anything that feels off. You set the bar each day.

Postpartum, the core-first way

Up to 6 months postpartum: no crunch-type movements, no high impact, and load progression is capped while deep core function rebuilds. From 6–12 months, trunk-flexion work is still held back as impact and load return gradually. After 12 months, training normalizes. Every stage says so explicitly in your plan notes.

Injuries & sensitive areas

Flag knees, shoulders, lower back, wrists, ankles or neck during onboarding. The engine excludes exercises contraindicated for those areas and substitutes appropriate work — and your plan tells you it did so. If something hurts during a session (sharp pain, joint pain, dizziness, chest pain — stop immediately), stop and seek qualified care for anything persistent or concerning.

Escalation paths

  • Chest pain, pressure, or breathlessness at rest → stop and seek medical care immediately.
  • Pain during exercise that's sharp, joint-related, or doesn't settle → stop; consult a qualified professional.
  • Any pregnancy complications → follow your provider's guidance; your plan can be regenerated any time.
  • Postpartum: pelvic pain, leaking, or heaviness → pause high effort; a pelvic health physiotherapist is the right specialist.

What we will never do

  • Diagnose anything, ever
  • Prescribe for medical conditions
  • Promote "no pain no gain" or pain normalization
  • Make weight-loss medical claims
  • Let an AI language model invent prescriptions without the engine and validator

Full screening logic and guardrail mappings are documented in our engineering safety model and reviewed against ACSM/ACOG-aligned guidance. Independent review by a qualified exercise professional is planned before paid launch.
